See a doctor from home with American Well #momsloveamwell

This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Amwell. All opinions are my own.

In the past year, we’ve been very reluctant to go to the doctor. Luckily, we’ve all been fairly healthy (knock on wood), but there has still been a few incidents.  I wish we had known about American Well, also known as Amwell, a website that offers doctors on demand.  On one occasion, I was struggling with what may have been a UTI.  However, it was my toddler’s birthday and I was leery of spending lots of money. How much easier would it have been to hop on my laptop, pay a set fee, and even gotten medication prescribed, all from my comfy chair in my sweats?  You don’t even need to make an appointment – you just log on, see who is available, and click!

I think this video explains the whole concept beautifully (don’t you just hate those paper “gowns”!):

My husband has been having some lingering dizziness after a recent inner ear infection. Rather than face possible exposure to other germs,  he decided to try out Amwell.  He just set up an account and then filled on a brief medical history and his vitals.  He also gave a quick description of what his issue was. He picked a family physician who liked the look of (yes, there’s pictures of the providers along with other info).  All providers have a full background to check as well, to help you choose.

Chris said that the doctor told him his dizziness could be due to an issue with a cranial nerve. She also gave him other useful info.  He was done pretty quickly but his provider extended the session to an hour.  He was pretty happy with the service. We were able to try it for free but in the future we’ll see if it’s covered by our insurance.  If not, it’s still about what we would pay for an urgent care visit, even with our insurance and so much more convenient.

I’m very happy to know that I have Amwell available to me when I just cannot get to the doctor or don’t want to infect the other patients.  Amwell also offers nutritionists, and to me the best part, therapists!  I can imagine having a remote therapist would be very helpful to those who are severely depressed and/or suffer from anxiety.  I have to say, being able to see a therapist online sounds fantastic to me and makes me much more willing to try out talk therapy.

The great news is that I have a coupon code for you to get $20 off of the $49 cost, making it just $29!  Just put code LOVEAMWELL20 in on the payment screen on Amwell.

Visit Amwell and sign up now. That way you’ll be signed up for when you need it, and you’ll be on your way to feeling better right away. Thank you, Amwell, for making medical care easy to access and hassle free!

It is so frustrating to spend precious minutes waiting to see the doctor. I really like this easy alternative!

This really would be a great way for a depressed person to get help quickly. I am not much for going to doctors and maybe I’m old fashioned but I would be afraid to have someone who doesn’t know me prescribe medication for me. I agree with Scott-it would be great for people in rural areas who don’t have doctors nearby.

This is so great for people in rural areas that cannot get to a hospital/doctor quickly. Great use of the technology!

I absolutely HATE waiting in doctors waiting rooms. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told the doctor, when he finally gets to see me, that he needs to be paying me for MY TIME which is just as valuable as his … whether his staff thinks so or not.
I have even left a doctors care after more than 20 years because of his staff “over booking” where I had to wait over an hour before they even told me that he wasn’t even in the building yet …. oh and there were 5, count them 5 people ahead of me (and my appointment was 20 minutes after he was “supposed” to arrive).

This sounds like a great idea.

I had to take the kids to the doctor today. The whole process took FOUR HOURS. I bet this is faster and much less frustrating.
