CampusBookRentals.com and RentBack.com make textbook buying less painful

This post is brought to you by CampusBookRentals.com.

I walked out of that college bookstore in pain in August 1998. The walks every semester just got worse and worse. $1k per semester was a good one and was very low when I compared it to my friends that were nursing students. Eventually, I learned to look on the internet for better prices but I weep when I think about how much I could have saved with CampusBookRentals.com, had they been around 15(!) years ago.

The premise is simple: you rent a textbook you need for 40-90% off what you would pay for a new textbook.  The book is shipped free to you both ways. There’s flexible rental periods so you’re not stuck having to return the book before your final.  AND…(this one is biggie to me), you can highlight in these books!

Here’s a video that explains it:

As if that wasn’t cool enough, with every textbook rental, CampusBookRentals.com donates to Operation Smile, an international charity that helps fix children’s mouths, increasing their quality of life and sometimes even saving their lives.  For the 2013-2014 school year, CampusBookRentals.com has committed to providing enough money for 80 surgeries.  That’s a lot of kids being helped but they hope to donate even more with your help.

As if book rental wasn’t enough, there’s another option for after your done with any textbook that you purchased yourself: Rentback.com.  Usually you would sell back any books at the end of the semester, take the pittance you received and go drown your sorrows in beer pong.  (Admit it, you’ve done it.)  Now, instead of just getting money back once, you can receive up to 4 times the money, as long as your textbook is in demand.  Once again, you ship your book to free to RentBack and your book will be rented over and over, as many times as somebody requests it.

And another video about Rentback:

(Oops, I was always complaining about the bookstore being greedy.)

Save money, help children around the world, and maybe even help some other college students save money – I’ll call that a major win.  CampusBookRentals.com and RentBack.com are a dynamic duo that should have been around years ago but I’m glad they’re here now.

What a great text book solution! They can cost as much as half of your tuition otherwise!
